Schneider Electric Thailand co-operates with Electricite du Laos to establish the world-class standards in electrical installation and energy management in Laos

Vientienne, Laos, Feb 23, 2010- Schneider Electric Thailand, the global specialist in energy management, and Electricite du Laos (EDL), a state-owned corporation which owns and operates main generation, transmission and distribution assets in Laos People’s Democratic Republic, today announced the signing of an agreement to co-operate in establishing world-class standards in electrical installation and energy management in Laos. Experts from Schneider (Thailand) Ltd will transfer knowledge by training and developing EDL staff.

The company has also handed over 70 Schneider Electric electrical installation boards to EDL for its branches and sub-branches to install across Laos. This is expected to give a boost to Electricite du Laos’ capabilities and abilities in electrical installation.

Mr. Manish Pant, Country President of Thailand-Laos, Schneider Electric (Thailand) Ltd. said, “As energy efficiency and management take center stage in these times, the main purpose of this co-operation between Schneider Electric, the global specialist in energy management, and Electricite du Laos is to promote and support the energy management potential of Laos; and to allow Laos to achieve maximum energy efficiency and sustainability.

“At the first stage, Schneider Electric will provide two forms of support: handing over 70 electrical installation boards to Electricite du Laos for installation nationwide; and the development of personnel in the electrical field in Laos. For the latter, Schneider Electric experts will train EDL electricians to upgrade their knowledge and skills: enabling them not only to know the appropriate method of electrical system installation, but to be able to select and use high quality products and even to develop energy efficient installation solutions based on customers’ unique requirements.”

Through this co-operative project, Schneider Electric (Thailand) Ltd. will send the company’s experts to train and transfer knowledge to Electricite du Laos’s operations team. EDL’s team will also be invited for training at the Thai-French Innovation Institute (a joint training center with Schneider Electric Thailand) in Bangkok and a factory visit to the Schneider Electric factory at Bangpoo Industrial Estate. The first stage of co-operation will last for one year.

“At the outset, the purpose of this training is to transfer knowledge and best practices. We wish to help the electricians and the people of Laos to use electricity with maximum safety and efficiency as it is the foundation for long-term energy management strategy and sustainability in Laos.”, concluded Mr. Manish.
